Scottish National Party (SNP) politician Stephen Gethins has called on the United Kingdom to cancel President Donald Trump’s planned state visit following a tense exchange between Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Oval Office on Friday.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Gethins, a Member of Parliament, condemned Trump’s conduct during Zelensky’s visit, describing it as “bullying.” Speaking to BBC News, he criticized the US president’s treatment of Ukraine, stating, “What the world witnessed was a larger country ganging up on a smaller nation fighting for its survival.”
As the SNP’s foreign affairs spokesperson, Gethins warned that the UK risks further isolation and urged stronger ties with European allies. He argued that Trump’s visit should not proceed if his antagonistic stance toward Ukraine continues.
“Given the treatment of one of our key allies, I do not see how a state visit could possibly go ahead,” he said.
Following his trip to Washington, Zelensky traveled to London, where he met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday. His visit came after he was expected to finalize a mineral agreement with Trump.
