Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has granted bail of N100 million to Jude Okoye Chigozie, former manager of the defunct music group P-Square.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Okoye is facing trial alongside his company, Northside Music Limited, on a seven-count charge related to money laundering. The charges were filed by the Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Upon his arraignment on February 26, 2025, Okoye pleaded not guilty. During Monday’s hearing, his lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, applied for bail on medical grounds. However, EFCC’s prosecuting counsel, Fanen Anum, opposed the request, arguing that Okoye posed a flight risk and could interfere with witnesses.
After reviewing the arguments, Justice Owoeye ruled that the charges were bailable and granted Okoye bail under the following conditions: N100 million bond, two sureties in like sum, one of whom must own landed property within the court’s jurisdiction. Additionally, Okoye must notify the EFCC before traveling outside the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to April 14, 2025.
